Abstract

PURPOSE: To elongate the life of an electropolishing soln. and reduce the cost by composing the soln. of potassium or sodium pyrophosphate, one of ammonium citrate, sodium citrate and ammonium tartrate, and ammonium acetate.
CONSTITUTION: This electropolishing soln. is prepared by dissolving 50W200g potassium or sodium pyrophosphate, 50W200g ammonium citrate, sodium citrate or ammonium tartrate, 20W100g ammonium acetate and 10W50g triethanolamine in water so that the amount of the soln. becomes 1l. Triethanolamine is not necessarily required. The soln. is heated to about 40°C, a bronze plate with an oxide coat formed is dipped in the soln., and electrolysis is carried out using the plate as an anode and a copper plate as a cathode to remove the oxide coat. Thus, a lustrous surface is obtd.
