Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable copying speed to be enhanced even when heat capacity of a copier is small, by automating changeover of copying speed in accordance with a number of copies made from the same original. CONSTITUTION:When a number of copies made from the same original is small, temperature drop of the surface of fixing roller 2 is slight, and soon returns to the initial temperature. Since a control signal is not produced from the temperature sensor of the surface of roller 2 during this time, speed change solenoid 12 does not work, and derailer 9 keeps a chain engaged with high speed side sprocket 5. When a number of copies made from the same original is large, temperature of roller 2 gradually lowers. The temperature sensor detects this and applies its output to a comparator. A control value is set to the comparator in advance, and when the input from the sensor is lower than this value, a control signal is applied to a drive circuit, thus permitting the drive circuit to energize solenoid 12, the chain to be engaged with low speed sprocket 6, and copying speed to be lowered.
