Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the light fatigue of a photoreceptor and prevent the decrease in initial surface potential by erasing the residual charge of the photoreceptor by a cold cathode fluorescent lamp of an energy distribution in which the wavelength approximately equal to the peak value of the spectral sensitivity characteristics of the photoreceptor becomes peak value. CONSTITUTION:A light erasing device 9 has a cold cathode fluorescent lamp 10 which is built in a casing 11 provided with a throttle member 13 forming a slit 12. The fluorescent lamp 10 of the energy distribution characteristics in which the peak value of the specific energy distribution is the wavelength approximately equal to the peak value of the spectral sensitivity characteristics of a photoreceptor 1 is selected. If the photoreceptor 1 is irradiated at proper quantity of light so as not to cause over-irradiation by adjusting the width of the slit 12, the residual charge of the photoreceptor 1 is erased without any light fatigue and the decrease in the initial surface potential of the photoreceptor 1 is prevented. As a result, the copying of always constant density images may be performed even during continuous copying.
