Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a battery which has a long preservation-time as well as a high discharge rate and can be easily formed by employing an iodine complex, that has shifting charges and is made from either tetracyanotetracene and iodine or tetraselenotetracene and iodine as a positive electrode. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode 2 is made of a light metal like lithium, sodium, aluminium or magnesium. A positive electrode 1 made of a complex, that has shifting charges and is made from either tetracyanotetracene and iodine or tetraselenotetracene and iodine. For example, a fixed amount or the former substance (tetracyanotetracene or tetraselenotetracene) and iodine are mixed and are allowed to react at 60 deg.C for 8hr. The reaction product is tetracyanotetracene polyiodide or tetraselenotetracene polyiodide, and the product is used for the positive electrode 1. Through the means mentioned above, a battery which has a long preservation-time and a high discharge rate and is easily formed is obtainable: the complex used here has a low vapor-pressure value of iodines, a high electric conductivity and a great oxidizing ability.
