Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an absorbing structure for oxygen which absorbs oxygen effectively and prevents the decay, the change in quality, and the degradation of food in the presence of oxygen, by packaging an oxygen-absorbing composite comprising iron and metallic halide, contg. essentially no water with packaging material having specific oxygen permeability and specific humidity permeability.
CONSTITUTION: Oxygen-absorbing composite consisting of 1pt.wt. iron powder ordinally of ≤10 mesh, preferably ≤100mesh, ≥0.01pt.wt. preferably ≥0.1pt.wt. metallic halide (e.g., NaCl), ≤100pts.wt. preferably ≤20pts.wt. filler slightly soluble in water (e.g., acid clay) is prepared. The composite is packaged with packaging material having ≥0.001cc/cm2.sec.atm preferably ≥0.05cc/cm2.sec.atm oxygen permeability and ≥40g/m2.24hr, preferably ≥200g/m2.24hr humidity permeability to manufacture desired oxygen absorbing composite. Nonwoven fabric made of, e.g., PP is used for the packaging material.
