Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst carrier with excellent purifying capacity obtained by coating a monolithic catalyst carrier substrate with a mixed sintered powder of activated alumina and manganese dioxide. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum hydroxide prepared by a Bayer method is dehydrated rapidly and partially under a high temp. air stream and, after grinding, an activated alumina powder is obtained. To this powder, a beta-MnO2 powder is added as manganese dioxide and the obtained mixture is sufficiently mixed in a V shaped mixer. The resulting mixed powder is coated on a surface of the monolithic carrier substrate and cated thereon by baking to obtain the carrier. An amount of manganese dioxide added to said alumina powder is pref. 10-20wt% per a powder amount after mixing as beta-MnO2 and a particle size thereof is pref. 0.4-20mu. Further, a baking temp. is pref. about 900-1,150 deg.C.
