Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the thickness of a display body by using a metallic black layer formed by vapor deposition as a material for an opposite electrode. CONSTITUTION:In a display body produced by combining a solid thinned electrochromic material with an electrolyte a metallic layer 12 of gold or the like is formed on a background substrate 7 by vapor deposition in a low vacuum atmosphere and used as an opposite electrode. The metal formed by the vapor depositing method is entirely blackened and reduced in the density, giving a metallic black layer. Accordingly, the surface of this layer is in a porous state with fine metallic particles stuck like velvet, and it is electrically conductive, so the layer effectively acts as an electrode. By this structure sufficient function is provided in about several mum thickness, and the thickness of the electrochromic display body is reduced.
