Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the assimilability of a cellulosic substance by the titled microorgansim capable of hydrolyzing cellulose and cultivate the titled microorganism efficiently, by hydrating the cellulosic substance, and treating the hydrated cellulosic substance with ozone.
CONSTITUTION: A cellulosic substance 1, e.g. rice straw, wheat straw or bagasse, is mixed with an aqueous solution 2 containing a culture medium components, e.g. an inorganic nitrogen or inorganic salt, in a mixer 3 and hydrated. In this case, the moisture content of the cellulosic substance is adjusted to 90% or less. The hydrated cellulosic substance is then brought into contact with ozone generated by an ozonizer 7 in an ozone treating apparatus 4 by the gas-solid contact method to decompose the lignin the cellulosic substance 1. The amount of the ozone to be used is 0.005g or more based on one gram dried weight of the cellulosic substace 1. The cellulosic substance 1 is then fed from a sterilizing tube 10 to a cultivating tank 12 to cultivate the microoganism capable of hydrolyzing the cellulose therein.
