Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the battery capacity and the battery voltage of a nonaqueous electrolyte battery by using a given bismuth oxide as the positive active material of the battery. CONSTITUTION:A nonaqueous electrolyte battery is constituted by using a light metal such as lithium or aluminum as a negative active material, a nonaqueous electrolyte prepared, for example, by dissolving lithium perchlorate into a mixture solvent of propylene carbonate and 1,2-dimethoxyethane, and a bismuth oxide as a positive active material. The bismuth oxide used as the positive active material should be that of high oxidation state, for example, Bi2O5 or Bi2O4 which is higher in oxidation state than bismuth trioxide.
