Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a low fine particle content, large average diameter polyolefin, by using a catalyst system prepared by combining a specified solid catalyst component with an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A solid catalyst component is produced by reacting a reaction product of (i) at least one member selected from the group consisting of Mg and a hydroxylated organic compound, e.g., Mg + an alcohol, an oxygen-containing organic compound of Mg, e.g., Mg(OC2H5)2 and a halogen-containing compound of Mg, e.g., MgCl2, (ii) at least one member selected from the group consisting of an oxygen-containing organic compound of Ti or V, e.g., Ti(OC3H7)4, and a halogen-containing compound of Ti or V, e.g., TiCl4 and (iii) a silicon compound, e.g., dimethylpolysiloxane or dimethyldiethoxysilane, with (iv) a aluminum halide compound, e.g., AlCl3. Next, an olefin is polymerized by using a catalyst system prepared by combining the solid catalyst component with an organometallic compound in which the metal is a metal of Group IWIV, e.g., Al(C4H9)3.
