Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare stable γ-NiOOH for an active material in an alkaline battery readily, by adding an aqueous solution of a nickel salt and an aqueous solution of a persulfate continuously to a solution of a caustic alkali, and advancing the reaction in a specific temperature range.
CONSTITUTION: An about 2mol/l aqueous solution, of a Ni salt, e.g. NiSO4, is continuously added to an aqueous solution of an alkali, e.g. 10N NaOH, at a constant rate. At the same time, an aqueous solution of a persulfate, e.g. a saturated aqueous solution of K2S2O8, in an amount of about 2 times that of the oxidizing agent required theoretically is continuously added to the solution to advance the oxidation reaction at a temperature of 100W110°C and form and precipitate γ- NiOOH.
