Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare easily magnetic powder useful for high-density vertical magnetic recording, etc., by specifying a molar ratio of the individual components of glass-forming substances of three-component system, blending the substances with a replacing component, melting them, quenching the prepared glass material, followed by two-stage heat treatment.
CONSTITUTION: In a triangular diagram of MO-Fe2O3-B2O3 (M is Ba, Sr, Pb, or Ca), a ratio of three components is selected in a range made by drawing lines between point of 50mol% MO and 50mol% B2O3, point of 100mol% Fe2O3, and point of 100mol% MO. To control the reduction of coercive force, a given amount of a replacing component, e.g., Co, Ti, etc. is added to the components. The prepared blend is melted and quenched to form a glass material. The material is subjected to primary heat treatment at 450W650°C for ≥1hr, and subjected to second heat treatment at ≥750°C continuously, to precipitate Ba-ferrite particles. The prepared material is treated with an aqueous solution of acetic acid, and BaO.B2O3 phase and BaOH phase are dissolved and removed, to give magnetoplumbite type Ba-ferrite particles.
