Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the heating state to an optical fiber constant, to make the feed rate of the optical fiber constant by a control plate and to make the length of the fiber constant, by holding the optical fiber with a guide sleeve. CONSTITUTION:A fiber 7 passes between stoppers 1a, 1b, then through a guide sleeve 2 and a heater 3 and descends down onto a control plate 6. The stopper 1a presses the fiber 7 to the stopper 1b thereby fixing the fiber. The control plate is away from the center and a weight 5 is fixed to the fiber. The heater 3 is heated and the heated fiber is pulled by the weight 5 and deforms to a taper shape, until finally the fiber 7 is cut off. Then, the fiber 7 worked to a taper shape is made while held attached to the weight 5. Further, the control plate 6 resets to the central position and the above-described operation is repeated, whereby the fibers worked to a taper shapes are produced continuously.
