Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the resistance of an oil well pipe to corrosion due to gaseous CO2 by using a chromium steel having a specified composition as steel for the pipe and regulating the heat treatment conditions of the steel.
CONSTITUTION: In order to prevent an oil well pipe used in an oil well or a gas well contg. wet gaseous CO2 from being corroded by gaseous CO2, as steel for the pipe, a low-carbon chromium steel is used having a composition contg. 0.07W0.15% C, ≤0.80% Si, 0.25W2.00% Mn, 11.0W13.5% Cr, 0.20W0.80% Ni, ≤0.45% Nb, ≤0.10% Al, ≤0.025% P and ≤0.010% S or further contg. at least one kind of 0.03W0.25% Mo, 0.01W0.08% V and ≤0.50% Cu. An oil well pipe made of steel having said composition is hardened or normalized from 940W1,050°C and tempered at least once at the Ac1 transformation point or below. Thus, homogeneous fine tempered martensite structure is formed, and the strength, toughness and resistance to corrosion due to gaseous CO2 are enhanced.
