Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce an ethylene polymer suitable for injection molding, by employing a catalyst system comprising an organic Al compound and a solid catalyst component obtained by treating a solid component containing Mg, a halogen and Ti with a specified cyclic organic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A solid component containing a Mg atom, a halogen atom and a Ti atom is obtaind by treating a Mg compound such as MgCl2 with a titanium compound such as TiCl2. Next, a solid catalyst component is prepared by treating the solid component with a four- to eight-membered cyclic organic compound containing in the ring an oxygen atom and/or a nitrogen atom, such as furan or pyrimidine. Next, an ethylene polymer with a sharp MW distribution is obtained by polymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing ethylene with an α-olefin using a catalyst system prepared by combining the above solid catalyst component with an organic Al compound such as triethylaluminum.
