Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a transfer foil provided with a pattern-formed vapor-deposited metallic layer together with an ink pattern by a method wherein a releasing layer, a pattern layer, a water-soluble layer, a partial protective layer and the vapor- deposited metallic layer are sequentially provided on one side of a heat-resistant sheet, then the resulting laminate is washed with water to remove the metallic layer at the areas where the protective layer is not present, and an adhesive layer is provided.
CONSTITUTION: A release assistant layer 2, the releasing layer 3, the pattern layer 4 and the water-soluble layer 5 consisting of a transparent or translucent colored material such as polyvinyl alcohol or the like are sequentially provided on a heat- resistant and water-resistant base 1 of polyester or the like. Then, a transparent or translucent colored protective layer 6 containing an additive (e.g., aluminum chloride) capable of acting on the water-soluble layer 5 to reduce the solubility is formed partially on the layer 5. The vapor-deposited layer 8 of a metal such as aluminum is provided to cover the entire surfaces of the layers 5, 6 and is washed with water to remove it at the areas where the protective layer 6 is absent. After providing an anchor layer 9 as required, the adhesive layer 10 is provided to obtain the objective transfer foil having the vapor-deposited metallic layer.
