Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent separation of air flow when intake air is introduced into cylinder, by shaping the inner surface of an insert constituting the valve seat of intake valve and the inner surface of intake passage contiguous to the inner surface of said insert in the form of a univalent hyperboloid around the axis of the shaft of intake valve. CONSTITUTION:Intake port formed in cylinder head, shown in the drawing, comprises insert 2 constituting the valve seat of intake valve and it is communicated to intake passage 3. The insert 2 is composed of seat portion 21 formed in a diverging manner and inner surface 22 contiguous to the seat portion 21, which is connected to the inner surface 31 of intake passage located on the upstream side of the insert 2. Here, the curvature formed by inner surface 22 of insert 2 and inner surface 31 of intake passage is shaped in the form of a univalent hyperboloid. Further, inclination angle of the tangent drawn at point T where a line connecting the inner surface 22 and seat portion 21 of insert 2 intersects the plane involving the axis 1a of the shaft of intake valve is made equal to that of seat portion 21.
