Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the deformation caused by polymerization shrinkage by a method in which a polymerizable thermoplastic liquid substance having a transparency for light of a given wave length is polymerized in given molds and compressed at a specific temperature inside the molds, and then the molded lens is cooled and released from the molds. CONSTITUTION:A polymerizable thermoplastic liquid substance having a transparency for light of a given wave length, e.g., acrylic resins, styrenic resins, polycarbonate resins, etc., is cast with a polymerization initiator into molds having a given optical surface and then polymerized. Then, the molds having the polymer so formed are heated at a temperature higher than the glass transition point of the polymer but lower than the decomposition temperature of the polymer, compressed, and then cooled. Then, the plastic lens is obtained by releasing it from the molds. The preferred condition for the said compression is 20-200kg/cm<2>, and also the preferred state of the said polymerizable liquid substance is syrupy monomers.
