Abstract
PURPOSE:To shorten processing time by counting the numbers of white picture elements and black picture elements appearing on one main scanning line, by converting them into binary floating-decimal point display, and by counting the number of digits of a run-length code from two binary floating-decimal point displaying numerals. CONSTITUTION:Picture elements read successively by a main scan are counted by picture-element number counters 1 and 2 corresponding to black and white picture elements respectively. On the completion of the main scan, binary floating-decimal point converting circuits 3a and 3b perform conversion for floating-decimal point display. Outputs of converting circuits 3a and 3b are separated into mantissa parts 6a and 6b, and exponent parts 7a and 7b; mantissa parts 6a and 6b are supplied to comparator 4 to send the result to subtracting circuit 5, which subtracts by exponent parts 7a and 7b and by ''1'' according to the result of comparator 4, finding the number of digits of run-length code digits.
