Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent some channel from being disabled to be used when a recording state is inferior, by recording a signal, obtained by encoding a predetermined signal, and a redundancy signal of error correction codes on a recording track having no PCM signal recorded. CONSTITUTION:On recording track 5 where no voice PCM signal is recorded, a signal obtained by encoding a predetermined signal is recorded and a redundancy signal of error correction codes including the signal is generated and recorded. For example, the encoded signal of the predetermined signal is that in a fixed pattern obtained by encoding a DC voltage signal of a low level. Further, magnetic tape 1 is provided with eight voice tracks 2 for respective voice channels and two redundancy signal tracks 5 for error correction. From respective tracks, (b) bits each at positions adjoining to each other in the tape width direction are extracted to obtain pieces a1-a8 of information, and redundancy signals C1 and C2 obtained from those (b) 8 bits are recorded on track 5.
