Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield without forming aromatic sulfonates as a by-product, by reacting an aromatic sulfonyl chloride with a (hydro) sulfide of an alkali metal, NH4, etc. in a mixed solvent of a solvent which will not mix uniformly with water and water.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic sulfonyl chloride, e.g. an (alkyl)benzenesulfonyl chloride, is reacted with a sulfide or hydrosulfide of an alkali metal, NH4 or primary or quaternary ammonium, e.g. sodium sulfide, potassium hydrosulfide or tetramethylammonium hydrosulfide, to prepare an aromatic thiosulfonate. In the process, a mixed solvent of a solvent which will not mix uniformly with water, e.g. n-hexane or benzene, with water is used. The amount of the organic solvent is 1/5W10 times, preferably 1/2, that of the water. The aimed compound of very high quality can be obtained.
USE: An insecticide or an intermediate therefor.
