Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition with high water absorption and water-swelling property, easily moldable into a desired form, which is prepared by compounding a partially crosslinked graft or block copolymer having a hard segment and a hydrophilic segment, with another resin.
CONSTITUTION: A partially crosslinked block or graft copolymer having a hard segment (e.g., polystyrene) and a hydrophilic segment contg. an anionic or cationic hydrophilic gp. (e.g., a carboxyl gp.), is compounded with a natural or synthetic resin, or a liquid medium contg. the resin, to obtain the titled composition.
EFFECT: The titled composition repeats reversible swelling with water, a prolonged effect being expected.
USE: Joint water-stopping agent for largely hygroscopic fibers, synthetic leather and building materials, a water-sustaining agent for soil, a humidity adjustor, a paint and an anticondensation agent.
