Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the high purity titled compound useful as a perfume etc., in a short process and in high yield, by the reaction of easily and inexpensively available 4,4-polymethylenedioxybutyronitrile with a Grignard reagent followed by the deacetalization.
CONSTITUTION: 4,4-Polymethylenedioxybutyronitrile of formula I (n is 2 or 3) is treated with a Grignard reagent of formula RMgX (R is group of formula II, formula III etc.; X is halogen) to give 4-oxo-1,1-polymethylenedioxy compound of formula IV. The compound is subjected to the deacetalization in the presence of an acidic catalyst, e.g. sulfuric acid, to give 4-oxoalkanal compound of formula V. Each of the reactions can be easily carried out, and the intermediate of formula IV can be obtained in high yield and with high purity. The objective compound can also be obtained in one step without isolating the intermediate of formula IV.
USE: Intermediate of jasmonoid perfumes, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals etc.
