Abstract

PURPOSE: To substantially improve occurrences of surface crack, inner segregation, etc., by controlling the resting of molten steel by measuring the forming condition of solidified surface, change in the bulging force at the solidifying process, and the variation of drawing speed.
CONSTITUTION: The movement of valve 8 of the gaseous pressure adjusting mechanism in molten metal supplying container 1 is set by arithmetic control circuit 7 so that an adequate static pressure of molten steel is obtained. By measuring either one or both of the bulging force and thickness of solidified surface with measuring device 10 at the location just after mold 4, and by measuring the drawing speed with measuring device 11 from the revolving speed of pinch roll 5, the static pressure of molten steel is changed, for example, from h1 to h2 by means of arithmetic control circuit 7. In this way, influences, such as surface crack, etc., caused by the change in ingot drawing speed, etc., during the course of casting work, is minimized as much as possible by the variable control of static pressure of molten steel, and ingots having good quality are manufactured efficiently.
