Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain glass fiber scopes for observing forge welding processes which can stand for the worst environment, by protecting the fiber scope by installing a special surrounding construction.
CONSTITUTION: Main body 1 of fiber scope is composed of objective lense 11, fiber cable 12 and output terminal 13. Protective cap 2 is fitted over objective lense 11. Cap 2 is composed of the surrpounding ring part made of stainless steel and the transparent lense made of quartz. Protective tube 3 composed of central tube 31 and cover for cooling water 32 is centrifugally installed for the long section of fiber scope main body 1 from the vicinity of objective lense to the base. Water supplying tube 321 and water discharging tube 322 are installed to cover 32. Moreover, cover for purging air 33 is installed at the outside of cover for cooling water 32 and pressure air is blown out from central opening 34 to the outside of cover 33 along the end face of protective cap 2. Fiber scope 1 is inserted between the butt-welding roll and forming roll and observation is carried out.
