Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the surface degree of casting surfaces, and reduce the extent of the component segregation area near the casting surfaces by providing multiple lines of grooves in a pouring direction on the inside wall of a mold. CONSTITUTION:When molten metal is supplied in a mold 2, the molten metal contacts the crest parts 7a of the grooves 7 on the inside wall surface of a mold, whilst it cannot enter the trough parts 7b on account of the surface tension of the molten metal, thus air gaps are formed there. Namely, the molten metal is held by air and lubricating oil in the trough parts 7b of the longitudinal grooves. This turns out that the contact area of the molten metal and the mold is decreased and that the primary cooling of the molten metal is effectively suppressed, thus resulting in decreased solidification shrinkage and decreased surface defects such as sweating phenomenon. Since this makes the supply of the lubricating oil between the mold 2 and the cast ingot easy, the surface of the cast ingot is made beautiful.
