Abstract
PURPOSE: To carry out the early diagnosis of pancreatic cancer which can hardly be detected at its early stages, easily, by using a pancreatic cancer fetus antigen (POA) labelled with radio-isotope or an enzyme or a POA antibody.
CONSTITUTION: Pancreatic cancer is detected by determining the amount of pancreatic cancer fetus antigen (POA) in the body fluid such as blood serum, pancreatic juice, etc., using a reagent for diagnosis of pancreatic cancer obtained by labelling POA or POA antibody with a ratio-isotope (e.g. 125I, 131I, etc.) or with an enzyme (e.g. peroxidase, β-D-galactosidase, alkali phosphodase, etc.). POA is found to be a specific antigen present exclusively in the fetus pancreatic tissue, pancreatic juice of the pancreatic cancer patient, and pancreatic cancer tissue, and accordingly, the determination of the POA by RIE (radio-immunoassay) or EIA (enzymatic immuno-assay) enables the easy and accurate diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
