Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent steel and copper alloy from mutual penetration inbetween and preclude base metals and build-up members from promoting brittleness and degrading their corrosion resistance by padding the 1st layer by a reversed polarity plasma arc welding method and the 2nd layer by an MIG welding method.
CONSTITUTION: In build-up welding copper alloy onto steel of the flange surface or the like of a sea water desalting apparatus, the 1st layer is padded by a reversed polarity plasama arc welding method. In this case, the base metals serve as cathode and have therefore cathode cleaning effect by the arc, by which the oxidized film on the base material surfaces are removed and the fitness of the base metals to weld metal is improved. Thence, the 2nd layer is padded thereon by an MIG welding method.
