Abstract
PURPOSE: A specific block copolymer is uniformly dispersed in a solution of water and a water-solubly organic solvent to produce the titled dispersion containing high concentration of polymer but keeping a low viscosity and high dispersion stability, thus being suitable used as a water-based coating.
CONSTITUTION: A polymeric peroxide of formula I or II (R1 is 1W18C alkylene, 3W15C cycloalkylene; R2 is 2W10C alkylene; n is 2W10) and a vinyl-type monomer containing no carboxyl, from which the polymer is required to be insoluble in water or a solution of water and the water-soluble organic solvent, or a mixture thereof with another vinyl monomer are copolymerized in a water-soluble organic solvent. The resultant peroxy bond-containing copolymer solution is combined with a vinyl- type monomer mixture containing 2 or more different kinds of monomers, of which 5W40wt% is vinyl-type unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and the block copolymerization is effected. Then, more than 50 equivalent percentage of carboxyls are neutralized and the copolymer is dispersed in a solution of water and a water-soluble organic solvent.
