Abstract
PURPOSE: To decompose harmful substances present in polluted water by means of microorganisms growing in large amounts by a method in which a tank is divided into plural compartments by microorganisms-adhered plates and polluted water is orderly passed through the compartments.
CONSTITUTION: The inner walls of a tank is provided with microorganisms-adhered plates 6 of an undulatory form, and its aeration chamber is plurally divided by the other microorganisms-adhered plates 4. Polluted water flows from an inlet 2 into the first aeration chamber 3a, where it is retained and decomposed in the first partition, sent from an outlet 8 into the second partition, and is stayed and decomposed there. The polluted water is likewise subjected to the same treatment in the subsequent third and fourth compartments. After the treatment in the first aeration chamber, the polluted water goes from a polluted water outlet 14 through a polluted water path 12 into the second aeration chamber 3b where it is subjected to the same treatment. When the polluted water is aerated by air from a diffuser pipe 5 at the bottom, solids present in the polluted water are broken by the undulatory unevenness of the microorganisms-adhered plates 4 and 6 and harmful substances are decomposed by microorganisms such as aerobic bacteria growing on the plates 4 and 6.
