Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition excellent in workability in preparing a sheet and excellent in water-absorbing ability by a method wherein a water- growth resin powder of a cross-linked structure is mixed with a specified hydrophobic, extremely fine particulate silica at a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:The water absorbent is the mixture of (A): the water-growth resin of the cross-linked structure such as a cross-linked material of starch-acrylate graft polymer or the like and (B): the hydrophobic, extremely fine particulate silica having an average particle size of not larger than 0.05mu and a specific surface area of not smaller than about 50m<2>/g (measured by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, equation method), the mixing ratio being 100pts.wt. of the resin to 0.05-5pts.wt. of the silica. The water absorbent can be used for preparing water-absorbing sheets without occurrence of reduction in the workability due to sticking phenomenon arising from the absorption of moisture, can be scattered in a predetermined amount and has an excellent water-absorbing ability.
