Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture a toner having a narrow range of grain size and superior in durability, formation of pictures and transfer property, by suspending and polymerizing a polymerizing monomer composite, containing a coloring agent, in a water type dispersion medium in the presence of a hydrophilic inorganic dispersing agent and specific modifying agent. CONSTITUTION:With 100pts.wt. single polymerizing substance (a) (e.g. styrene), 3-20pts.wt. coloring agent (b) (e.g. carbon black) and 50-300pts.wt. magnetic powder (c) (e.g. Co) of 0.01-1mum in mean grain size are blended to obtain polymerizing single substance composite (A). To water, hydrophilic inorganic dispersant (B) (e.g. SiO2) by 0.01-10g per 100ml water and modifier (C) (e.g. hexyl amine) performing the hydrophobic modification of 1-50pts.wt. component A per 100pts.wt. component A are added and compensated to obtain a water type dispersant, to which component A is added and stirred at 1,000-6,000r.p.m. to be dispersed and suspended. Then, it is suspended and polymerized at 55-120 deg.C in the presence of a polymerization initiator.
