Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a multilayered TN liquid-crystal display device suitable to multiplex driving, by specifying the polarization direction of a polarizing means.
CONSTITUTION: A two-layer liquid-crystal display device is composed of a TN type liquid-crystal cell having liquid crystals 2a and 2b. Then, angle Δθ1 between polarization direction A of polarizing element 7a and long-axis direction r2 2 of a liquid-crystal molecule closest to element 7a and angle Δθ2 between polarizing element 7b and long-axis direction r1 1 of a liquid-crystal molecule closest to element 7b are set to 3W15°. Further, the angle of each deviation is in the direction where the spiral angle of a spiral liquid-crystal layer forming liquid crystals 2a and 2b and their absolute values are nearly equalized. Thus, the polarization direction is specified to decrease value Vsat/Vth greatly, so that the display device suitable to multiplex driving can be formed.
