Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the external diameter and internal thickness of an insulated wire with high accuracy by a method wherein the image of the insulated wire is picked up through the transparent window of a vulcanzing tube, while a measuring camera composed of an element geneating an output signal provided with a level corresponding to the wire rod of the insulated wire and an insulative material is provided. CONSTITUTION:An apparatus 10 is provided with a measuring camera 20 used to pick up the image of an insulated wire 3 through a transparent window 16a composed of heat resistant transparent glass supplied with a splice box 16 in a vulcanizing tube 14; a camera controller 22 that controlls the measuring camera and receives an output signal (pickup signal); and an arithmetic processor 24 which arithmetically processes the output signal from the measuring camera. The measuring camera consists of a number of solid pickup elements arranged along a measuring line 1, and the number of the elements may be set at, for instance, 1,024, 2,048 or 4,096. The larger the number of the elements, the higher the accuracy of measurement.
