Abstract

PURPOSE:To decrease the turbulent flow of molten steel in the initial period of pouring and form stable laminar flow of steel by using an auxiliary nozzle forming a runner of a smaller bore size than the inside diameter of a nozzle provided below the nozzle in the initial period of continuous casting at the time of pouring the molten steel from a tundish into a mold. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary nozzle 9 forming a runner 10 of a bore smaller than the inside diameter of a nozzle 3 having a cylindrical runner 7 is provided below the nozzle 3 in close contact therewith. Thereupon, if the stopper and nozzle closing is defective in the initial period, the molten steel flow is temporarily throttled by using this auxiliary nozzle. Thereby, the continuous casting of the steel of good quality is accomplished safely.
