Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit heat to transfer with an extremely good efficiency from the interior of a battery to the exterior, by providing a hollow member hermetically filled with a gas or a liquid and gas formed by the gasification of the liquid in such a manner that the hollow member extends from the interior of the battery to the exterior. CONSTITUTION:On a lid 2 of a container 1 of a lead acid battery, a hollow body 12 hermetically filled with a gas or a liquid and gas formed by the gasification of the liquid is provided by a reinforcing member 16 with a packing such as an O-ring 13 interposed. A heat-collective fins 14 are fixedly attached to the lower extremity of the hollow member 12, while the upper extremity is provided with radiator fins 17. Accordingly, gas heated at lower portions of the hollow member 12 moves upwardly while gas cooled at upper portions of the hollow member 12 moves downwardly, thereby efficiently transmitting heat generated inside the battery from the interior of the battery to the exterior. Thus, by disposing the radiator fins 17 in a joint 18 coupled with a pipe 19 through which water or the like passes, the battery can be cooled with an extremely good efficiency and, at the same time, the heat generated can be effectively utilized for other purposes.
