Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform developing processing of good quality corresponding to the developer used without scattering developer and uneven images by such means as installing the upper stream edge of a developer vessel in a required position and providing a prescribed stripping member and a charging member. CONSTITUTION:The upper stream edge 26 of a developer vessel 6 is so installed that its leading end part positions on the lower stream side than the uppermost part of a developer holding member 4, and that it is inclined within the 0 deg.<alpha< 90 deg. angle range with respect to the horizontal line of the uppermost position of the member 4. Therefore, the developer removed from the member 4 by the upper stream edge 26 is put into the vessel 6 without scattering to the outside. Further, the used developer remaining on the member 4 is removed by a stripping member 32 formed of fine wires. The developing processing of an electrostatic latent image forming member 18 is accomplished without uneven images by the developer 14 which is sufficiently charged by frictional charging by a charging member 22 of higher resistivity than that of the developer of >=10<12>OMEGA.cm resitstivity. Here, the polarities of the bias voltage impressed to the member 4 and the vessel 6 are easily and surely changed over corresponding to the developer to be used by means of a change-over switching mechanism.
