Abstract

PURPOSE: To stabilize a resin soln. produced with time and to improve water resistance of a film, by blending a crosslinking agent and a β-diketone with an acetoacetic ester group-contg. PVA resin soln.
CONSTITUTION: Appropriate amounts of a crosslinking agent and a β-diketone are blended with a soln. of an acetoacetic ester group-contg. PVA resin resulting from the reaction of a PVA resin with a diketene, acetoacetic acid or an acetoacetic ester. The resulting resin soln. is stable, exhibits little change in viscosity with time and produces a film having excellent water resistance when a solvent is removed by air drying or forced drying. Thus, this resin soln. is suitable for use in plywood, exterior coating vehicle, etc. for which water resistance is required.
