Abstract

PURPOSE:To detect stably the reproducing mode and switch stably the mode, by detecting the reproducing mode digitally. CONSTITUTION:1/2 Frequency dividing circuit 9, servo circuit 13, counting circuit 14, memory circuit 15, and comparing and deciding circuit 16 are provided for control head 10 and capstan motor 12. At the recording time, the vertical synchronizing signal is divided by 1/2 frequency dividing circuit 9 and is recorded as a control signal at the end part of magnetic tape 1 by control head 10. At the reproducing time, the control signal reproduced by control head 10 is applied to servo circuit 13 and counting circuit 14, and a count value corresponding to the period of the reproduced control signal frequency is obtained and is compared with prescribed storage contents of memory circuit 15 by comparing and deciding circuit 16 to detect the tape running speed at the recording time, and the reproducing tape speed is controlled. Consequently, a desired purpose is achieved without receiving the temperature characteristic due to the threshold and so on and fluctuation.
