Abstract
PURPOSE: To purify the high-purity titled compound selectively and efficiently, by extracting an aqueous solution aromatic sulfinic acid containing with dichloromethane, chloroform, or 1,2-dichloroethane and removing by products.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution containing an aromatic sulfinic acid or its salt is converted by a mineral acid into a free sulfinic acid, which is extracted with dichloromethane, chloroform, 1,2-dichloroethane, or their mixture as a solvent to separate only sulfinic acid by extraction. The titled compound with extremely small content of impurities, e.g., an inorganic acid, inorganic salt, side reaction product (e.g., aromatic sulfonic acid, etc.) is separated efficiently through extraction and can be purified in high purity by a conventional method.
