Abstract

PURPOSE:To discriminate labels individually even if plural labels are added to one article, by performing read processing on a basis of continuity of judgements obtained by deciding whether both a start code and a stop code are detected at the same time in one scanning period or not. CONSTITUTION:The output signal of bar detecting circuit 6 is supplied to not only shift register 7 but also start and stop code detecting circuit 8. The start code and the stop code are inserted to the leading edge and the trailing edge of the bar-code; and when detecting circuit 8 detects both codes in one scanning period of image pickup device 4, deciding circuit 10 supplies only read data of the regular format to data processing part 11. Label detecting circuit 9 performs the logical processing where the case of generation of the start code detection signal as well as the stop code detection signal in a scanning period is set to 1, and label detection signal LAB is output when this case is continuous plural times, and the processing operation in data processing part 11 is started.
