Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled pharmaceutical, useful for hypercalcemia, particularly senile osteporosis, easily administrable, and prepared by dispersing calcitonin and surfactant in a suppository base uniformly.
CONSTITUTION: Calcitonin and a surfactant, e.g. sodlim glycolate, are dispersed in a suppository base, e.g. cacao butter, in a meat mill, etc. uniformly., and if necessary molded to give a calcitonin pharmaceutical for rectal administration. The surfactant is used in an amount of preferably 0.01W5mg based on 1MRC unit calcitonin. The calcitonin acts on the bone, intestinal tract, and kidney to reduce the calcium ions and inorganic phosphrous in blood, and is useful for hypercalcemia. However, the calcitonin has been administered only by injection. The pharmaceutical is a suppository easily administrable and effectively absorbed by the rectum.
