PURPOSE:To obtain a color photographic material with superior dye image retentivity by allowing a specified compound and a cyan dye image to be contained in the same layer to prevent the dark fading of the image. CONSTITUTION:A compound represented by general formula I or II (where R1 is alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, acyl, alkylsulfonyl or the like; R2 is H, halogen, an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, acrylamino or the like; l is 1 or 2; m is 0-5; each of R3 and R4 is H, an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue, aryl or a heterocyclic residue; R3 and R4 are not H simultaneously: and Z is H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, nitro, sulfo or the like), e.g., the compound of formula III is used. A cyan dye forming phenolic or naphtholic cyan coupler and the above-mentioned compound are allowed to be contained in the same layer, preferably the silver halide emulsion layer to form a photographic material.
