Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare malononitrile useful as a raw material of vitamin B1, economically, in an industrial scale, without using hazardous hydrocyamic acid and corrosive chlorine, etc., by reacting malonic acid diester with ammonia in gaseous phase in the presence of dehydration catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: Malononitrile of formula II is prepared by reacting a malonic acid diester of formula I (R is alkyl), e.g. dimethyl malonate, with ammonia in gaseous phase in the presence of a dehydration catalyst (e.g. phosphoric acid supported by a carrier such as silica), e.g. at 300W450°C for 0.1W20 seconds. The preferable molar ratio of the diester to ammonia is 1:(10W800).
EFFECT: The raw materials have high safety. There is no problem of the apparatus corrosion, and the treatment of waste and waste liquid can be simplified.
