Abstract
PURPOSE: To eliminate the stickiness of resin coated sand and improve sand clogging characteristic by adding a specific amount of a crystal nucleus agent to a crystalline unsaturated polyester resin as a binder at the time of producing resin coated sand for molds and cores.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of producing the resin coated sand for molds and cores in casting at relatively low temp. such as of Al by a hot melt method, sand is heated above the softening temp. of the resin to be coated and a crystalline unsaturated polyester resin is added thereto with agitation, whereby the surfaces of the molding sand are coated with the resin. In this case, a crystal nucleus agent of inorg. oxide such as silica or alumina having ≤1μ mean grain sizes is beforehand added at 0.1W3pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. of the crystalline unsaturated polyester resin to be added to the heated molding sand, and in the process of coating the same to the sand grains by a hot melt method, said crystal nucleus agent is again added at 1W5pts.wt. to 100pts.wt. resin. The coated sand free from stickiness is obtained in a short time.
