Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a fiber having improved color developing property, by hard twisting a polyester fiber containing inert inorganic fine particles, e.g., an oxide of a specific metal, and treating the twisted fiber with an alkali. CONSTITUTION:A polyester in which at least 70mol% of the total acid component is terephthalic acid is incorporated with 0.1-4wt%, preferably 0.3-2wt%, inert inorganic fine particles having an average primary particle size <=5mu, preferably <=100mmu, selected from inorganic fine particles containing silicon, e.g. mica or talc, fine inorganic particles consisting of an oxide of a metal selected from Group II in the periodic table, e.g. zinc oxide, and/or a salt thereof, e.g. calcium carbonate, aluminum oxide, thorium oxide and zirconium oxide and spun to give a fiber. The resultant fiber is then hard twisted, heat-treated and dissolved in an aqueous solution of caustic soda to give a weight reduction ratio of 10-30wt%.
