Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the display of superior contrast by forming a transparent conductive layer on a substrate, forming transparent electrode patterns with the photoresist layer as a mask then applying a colored PVA film over the entire surface and removing the resist layer and PVA film on the electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: In the XY matrix type liquid crystal display device or the like, transparent conductive layers 20 are formed on upper and lower substrates 1, 2, and a photoresist layer 21 having required patterns is provided on each layer 20 and with the layer 21 as a mask, the layers 20 are etched to form required electrodes 5, 6. If necessary, grooves 22 are formed by etching the substrates 1, 2 using the layer 21 as a mask. Next, the photosensitive slurry containing PVA and K2Cr2O7 is coated and is exposed over the entire surface, thence it is dyed, whereby a colored layer 23 is formed. Thence, the resist 21 and the colored layer 23 thereon are removed by using a solvent, to leave a light absorbing layer 9. By encircling the circumferences of the display electrodes 5, 6 by the light absorbing layer 9 in this way, the contrast of the display images is improved.
