Abstract
PURPOSE: To measure the length, width, cambers and thickness of a plate material automatically in a short period of time while the plate material is being transferred, by positioning the plate material, which has been fed in the widthwise direction, while holding the plate material by stoppers, widthwise-moving gauges and lengthwise-moving gauges, and determining the amounts of displacement of these gauges.
CONSTITUTION: A plate material B is fed onto a conveyor 3 in the widthwise direction to be brought into contact with stoppers 4, 5 so that the plate material B is in an immovable state. Lengthwise-moving gauges 13, 14 are then pressed against both of the longitudinal ends of the plate material B, and positioning widthwise-moving gauges 6, 7 against the rear end thereof, to thereby set the plate material B in a predetermined position. After the plate material B has been thus positioned, another three widthwise-moving gauges 8, 11, 12 are pressed against the rear end of the plate material B, and vertically-moving gauges 15, 16 against the lower and upper surfaces thereof, respectively. The length L, width W, cambers C1, C2 and thickness T of the plate material B can be determined on the basis of the detection amounts of displacement of the mentioned gauges. Since the positioning of the plate material B and the pressing of gauges against the plate material B are carried out simultaneously, the sizes of the plate material B can be measured automatically in a short period of time.
