Abstract
PURPOSE:To allow a photosensitive material to show superior halation and irradiation preventing effects without exerting unfavorable influence such as desensitization, fog, etc. in coating an emulsion or after storage by adding a specified merocyanine dye to at least one layer of the material. CONSTITUTION:To a layer of a photosensitive material, e.g. an emulsion layer, an intermediate layer or an under layer is added a dye represented by the formula [where R1 is alkyl, sulfoalkyl, carboxyalkyl or the like, or may form an alkali metal salt or an NH4 salt; R2 is aryl; R3 is H, halogen or nitro; Z is a group of nonmetal atoms required to form a 5- or 6-membered ring; n=0-2; and each of the methine chains connecting two cyclic structures at both ends is (substituted) alkyl or aryl]. The amt. of the dye added is 5-1000mg per m<2> of the photosensitive material. The dye is perfectly and rapidly eluted from the material and decolored, so it is not left in a finished photographic image after a development process.
