Abstract
PURPOSE:To let relatively small molten metal influent speed be readily obtained by estabilishing the specified conditions between the inside diameter of a tundish nozzle and the inside diameters of the bottom and top end part of a pouring nozzle and forming the both nozzles into the hermetic construction to the atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:With the molten metal in a tundish 10 being maintained at the height h1 from the bottom end of a tundish nozzle 14, the molten metal 12 is flowed out through the nozzle 14 and pouring nozzle 16 into a mold 18. The molten metal 12 is subsequently cooled to become a slab 22 which is then pulled by pinch rolls 20. If here the inside diameter d1 of the nozzle 14, the inside diameter d2 of the bottom end of the pouring nozzle and the inside diameter dM of the top end of the pouring nozzle are so constituted as to satisfy the two relations of dM>d2>=d1>15mm, 5d1>=dM>1.2d1, then the effluence rate from the bottom end of the nozzle 16 may be made fairly smaller than the anticipated rate of flow under the height up to the molten level in the tundish 10 from the bottom end of the pouring nozzle 16. Because of this, the remelting of the solidified shell and the capturing of non-metallic inclusions into the solidified shell become difficult to occur.
